Community Funds: Community Funds are a special group of funds which fuel our annual grantmaking program for non-profit groups and organizations in Charlotte County. Disbursements from these funds are at the discretion of the volunteer Board of Directors of the Foundation. A Grants Committee reviews proposals and makes recommendations for spending. In this way, these funds provide support for the emerging needs and opportunities of the communities of Charlotte County.

The Kane Family Fund (2004)  This fund was established by Peter and Mary Kane of St. Andrews, New Brunswick.

The Cuthbertson/Rainer Family Fund (2004)  This fund was established by FCF Executive Director, Leslie Cuthbertson, and her husband Rob Rainer, who have always held dear the value of community. Ms. Cuthbertson and her husband moved to St. Andrews to work and raise their children. "We have been so fortunate for the quality of life we have had raising our children among friendly people, in a clean, peaceful, safe and quiet environment. We’ve enjoyed all of what our community has had to offer in terms of community celebrations, good schools, neighbors and friends and a wonderful support network of people who care about quality of life for all. This fund is about giving something back", said Cuthbertson.

The J.T. Clark Family Foundation Fund (2004)  This community fund was established by the J.T. Clark Family Foundation. Mr. John Clark, president of the J.T. Clark Family Foundation felt that it was important for people to understand the importance of building FCF's unrestricted fund.

The Youth In Philanthropy Endowment Fund (2003) Fundy Community Foundation's Youth Advisory Committee, TIP, (Teens In Philanthropy) established this fund by performing a fund raising skit at the FCF tenth anniversary celebration dinner and dance with The Thomists on November 15, 2003. They used wit and humor to demonstrate to the audience that they have a unique approach to community grant-making.  This fund will generate income which will be disbursed under the direction of TIP and future TIP members in support of community projects in Charlotte County.

The Nora Magee Breese Community Fund (2001)  Nora Magee Breese received much joy and sustenance from the people and the seascape of St. Andrews. During her life, she gave generously to the community. This fund is created to perpetuate this tradition.

The Beaverbrook Canadian Foundation Fund (2000), This fund was established to honor Lord Beaverbrook’s legacy of “enhancing the lives of the next generation while remaining committed to the community”.  It is an unrestricted and open fund to support the charitable activities of the Fundy Community Foundation.

The Arthur B. MacLeod Memorial Fund (2000), This fund was established in memory of Arthur B. MacLeod by his widow Evelyn, in honor of his life and to help to assist others in the future.  Arthur was born in St. Stephen and, he was employed with NBTel for over forty years until ill health forced him to retire.  Up until then he was actively involved in church and community affairs and was also a member of several fraternal organizations, always giving his best.

The Richard and Margaret Saunders Family Fund (2000),  This fund was established by Dick and Peggy Saunders of St. Andrews, N.B., “St. Andrews and this part of New Brunswick has been very good to us.  We came here in 1960 and decided that it would be a fine place to raise our family.  We decided that it would be appropriate to establish a family fund with Fundy Community Foundation in order to “put something back” into the community.  Grants are to be made for projects in the Fundy area to help in various ways with the betterment of life in this area.  This is one way to help provide opportunities of the sort that have been offered to our children and to us.”  Dick and Peggy Saunders, 2000

The Richmond and Mabel Steeves Memorial Fund (2000),  Richmond (91) and Mabel (89) Steeves died within twenty-two days of each other just prior to their 65th Wedding Anniversary in 2000.  It was their desire that a fund be established to give back to the community, in which they were born, worked and lived their lives. “Richie”, during his career, worked in and later ran the family plumbing business with his brother Art.  “Richie” loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mabel (nee Thornton) trained as a hairdresser and later as a secretary.  Mabel was active in the Kirk McColl Church, a great cook and well known for her love of birds, especially calling the loons at their beloved Camp Talltrees on the St. Croix River. During their lifetime they were active volunteers in their community.  By establishing this fund their giving continues.

Norma and James Davies Fund (1998)This pledged fund was set up by St. Andrews residents, Norma and Jim Davies, who are actively involved in community affairs in their town.  Strong supporters of non-profit organizations, their fund combines with others in the Community Fund to provide income for annual FCF granting programs.

The Flemer Fund (1997)Established by John and Lucinda Flemer, this is an unrestricted and open fund established to support the charitable activities of the Foundation.

The Redmond Fund (1996) - . In 1937 Mr. Rene Redmond, who always wanted to farm, sold his Montreal insurance business and took a six month course in agriculture at McGill University.  He moved with his wife, the Honorable Mrs. Redmond, to St. Andrews in 1938. They lived on the corner of King and Montague Streets, and bought what is now Bantry Bay Farm. There they developed one of the finest jersey herds in eastern Canada.  Their daughter, Mrs. N.T. Mais, established the fund in their memory.

Halina Milewski Memorial Fund (1995) - . Orphaned early in life and placed in an orphanage, Halina Swiantkowska was removed from her beloved Poland in 1939 and placed in a German program to expand the Aryan race.  With the end of World War II, she was liberated and she emigrated to Canada in 1950.  This memorial fund was established by her four children to honor her strong sense of dignity, respect for all life, and desire to learn.

Marion White Eiseman Memorial Fund (1995) - . Born on a farm in North Dakota, Marion White earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago in 1919 and a masters degree in 1940.  As a social worker based mainly in New York City, Marion began to summer at “The Anchorage” on Grand Manan in 1946, for its healthier climate.  Within a few years she had bought and restored a house in Deep Cove.  She became a landed immigrant and moved permanently to St. Andrews in 1975, where she died in 1992.  Her husband Ferdinand Eiseman, a New York architect, established the fund to honor her great love of the area and its people.

<>Brian Eric Magee Memorial Fund (1994)Brian Eric Magee was the son of Phoebe Anne and the late Allan G. Magee, twin of Margot and younger brother of Willa.  He graduated from Queen’s University in Metallurgical Engineering and earned his Masters degree from the University of British Columbia.  Just before his 25th birthday he died in a flying accident in the B.C. Mountains. Brian was an experienced sport parachutist and held a commercial helicopter pilot’s license; from early years he had a great concern for the environment. In 1994 his mother, a founding director of the Fundy Community Foundation, established its first fund in Brian’s memory.  It honors his short life, lived to the fullest, with courage, always giving his best.

The Bryce Family Fund - Although Rick and Val Bryce are relative newcomers to Charlotte County, both quickly integrated into community life by volunteering for and supporting several local organizations. Rick volunteered on the St. Andrews Arts Council and coached basketball for a number of years at the Sir James Dunn Academy. Val helped found the St. Andrews Centre for the Arts. The entire family would be found back stage  on the evenings of performances by the st. Andrews Community Players and Act One Drama. Designated Funds: Designated funds are established to provide an ongoing source of support for a particular organization or cause. Donors specify the terms and conditions of designated funds.

The J.T. Clark Family Foundation Inc. for Dragonfly Fund (2007)
<>Through this endowment fund, established by The J.T. Clark Family Foundation Inc., The Dragonfly Centre for Autism Inc. will be more secure in their future. The income from this fund will provide funding for the Dragonfly Centre for Autism. Cynthia Bartlett, Director, says “Dragonfly has grown slowly and steadily and has given children who have autism a safe harbour through arts therapies and exploration of the natural world. The gift from The J. T. Clark Family Foundation Inc. affirms Dragonfly, but is also timely with the rapid increase in diagnosis globally, and the need for service in rounding out the development of children who have autism. It is very heartwarming to think that the Clark  family and their foundation throught enough of the service to try and give stability and hope for the future of the organization."

The Karen Dorothy Foulkes Environmental Fund (2007)

“Established in loving memory of my daughter, Karen Dorothy Foulkes, the purpose of this donor designated fund is to conserve the special places that Karen loved, and to develop and protect new wilderness trails and lookouts in Charlotte County. Preference will be given to the promotion and conservation of the Simpson Hill area for low impact recreation and nature appreciation. Funds may also be disbursed to similar wilderness trail projects in the St. Andrews area, including Bayside and Chamcook, should the Simpson Hill project not require funding in any particular year. Simpson Hill was always a special spot of Karen’s. She would frequently go up there by herself, and introduced many of her friends to its beauty. Karen was active in building trails and protecting this area from industrial development." Tim Foulkes

The Frank and Eleanor Stymest Fund,(2006)

Eleanor Stymest established this fund in memory of her late husband. She always had a love of lighthouses, even as a young child and so decided to have this fund provide support each and every year to help cover the repairs and maintenance of Pendlebury Lighthouse in St. Andrews. The Wall-Bain Charlotte County Museum Fund, (2004),  < style="font-family: arial;">As the first curator of her local museum and long-time Chair of its Board of Directors, Marian Bain, was well acquainted with the challenges facing non-profit organizations. She knew that just paying the phone bill every month could be an uphill battle.  That's why Marian chose to establish her own charitable fund. The Wall-Bain Charlotte County Museum Fund allowed Marian to direct her fund to her favourite charity and to specify the purpose of the fund. Now, earnings from Marian's legacy will provide funding for the museum to assist in covering its operational expenses.

The Roots of Empathy Fund, -

<>The Dorothy and Kenneth Langmaid Animal Welfare Fund (2001),  “This fund has been on our minds for many years.  We both have a great love of animals and have looked after stray and injured animals for many years.  Dorothy spent a great deal of time confined to bed and had plenty of cats and dogs to keep her company and take care of her.  She first joined the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (A.S.P.C.A) when she was in grade two and after she was again well she worked with animals and for their welfare.  In 1979 she was made an Honorary Life Member of the Fredericton S.P.C.A. in appreciation for her work.  We hope that this fund will help those who will be working with animals in the future by giving a small sense of stability to the cause and hopefully encouraging others to contribute to the welfare of animals in the future. “ K. Langmaid, St. Andrews, N.B.

Hathaway and Annie Fountain Family Memorial Fund (1997) -   This fund is designated to provide perpetual care to the five community cemeteries on Deer Island: Cumming’s Cove, Chocolate Cove, Leonardville, Fairhaven and Lord’s Cove.  The fund was established the by family of Hathaway and Annie Fountain of Cumming’s Cove.

Mary S. Williamson Fund - Mary Williamson (1912-1997) was a true bibliophile.  All her life she was a great reader, from the classics of English literature to the latest “whodunits” reviewed in the New York Times, and all categories in between those extremes.  After her family grew up she had the opportunity to work for a number of years in the Thomas Crane Public Library in Quincy, Mass., before moving to St. Andrews in 1962 when her husband retired there to his boyhood home.  Leaving the Quincy Library was a sad event, but she was soon able to resume her work with books by becoming a volunteer at the old St. Andrews’ Town Library under Stella Caughey.

In later years when her eyesight began to fail, Mary maintained her reading first with large print books, and then with a device to enlarge and project the printed page onto a special TV monitor.  Finally, she turned to talking books using the services of the CNIB and the Regional Library.

The family believes that a fund dedicated to the purchase of library materials for the Ross Memorial Library and bearing her name would certainly have appealed to Mary and would be the most appropriate way to honor her memory.

Marjorie (Thornton) Emerson Fund Mrs. Ardeth Holmes established this named fund in honor of her mother, Marjorie Emerson. Mrs. Holmes credits her love of reading and learning to her mother. Marjorie (Thornton) Emerson graduated from Provincial Normal School in Fredericton, 1938. She taught in several one-room schools in Charlotte County including Dumbarton, Lynnfield, Gleason Road, Waweig, Leverville, and Greenock. While in Greenock she met and married her husband, Murchie Emerson, sharing a home with him for over 50 years.

<>Helen Strait Remer Fund In devoted memory of Helen Strait Remer (1892-1987), mother of David and John Remer, grandmother of John Jr. (Jay) and Elizabeth Remer Kipp (Liz).  Helen Remer graduated from Vassar College, Class of 1912, majoring in English.  She also held minors in Greek and Latin.  A continuous process of self-education and intellectual growth exemplified her life, and libraries became a major source of her lifelong pursuit for knowledge.  In her words, “educating two sons during the Great Depression emphasized the importance of the local public library.”

<>The Dolly and Del Leighton Fund In memory of Dolly and Del Leighton who summered every year in St. Andrews, reading and gardening at the Mowat Farm, swimming at the Bar Road, playing in the Algonquin Tennis Tournaments, and enjoying many summer and year round friends.

<>The Walter and Kitty Williamson Book Fund The Walter and Kitty Williamson Book Fund was established by the Ross Memorial Library to help ensure that the generosity of two wonderful patrons of the Ross Memorial LIbrary in St. Andrews will not be forgotten. They were two regular library users and their visits are sincerely missed by the staff. Mrs. Williamson, upon her passing, left a bequest with which to purchase books. The library Board decided that it would like to note the gift by making it one that will give in perpetuity".

This fund derives from the belief that the best way to ensure that individuals are healthy and responsible members of their community is to give them the best start possible. Therefore, the purpose of this endowment is to fund initiatives that support and develop pre-natal health, early childhood development and the enrichment of children's learning and social environments through the adolescent years.

Stolt Sea Farm, established in 1985, began the first commercial smolt production for the then fledgling salmon aquaculture industry in Charlotte County.  It now grows various species of fish around the world, and locally has branched into sea cage culture and fish processing.  Stolt Sea Farm believes in putting philanthropic dollars back into the community in a way that has lasting benefit.  In 1996, this company responded to a challenge to contribute to an endowment fund to support the operations of the FCF.

Moore-Clark Fund (1996) -
A member of the BP Nutrition Group, Moore-Clark is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of fish feeds.
